First space salvage mission; Allen and Gardner captured two malfunctioning satellites
This two-piece flight suit was worn by Dale Gardner while aboard Discovery's second mission. Designed for comfort and functionality, the jacket and trousers have numerous velcro and zipper-clasped pockets for utensils, checklists and other supplies. Labels and NASA documents track the history of this suit, including its downgrade from Class I to Class III (training-only) in January 1990.
This suit was previously the featured exhibit at the Dale A. Gardner Aerospace Museum in his hometown of Sherburn, Minnesota. The museum has since been closed.
