This Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU) right hand glove's thermal micrometeoroid garment (TMG) layer was retired from use due to the damage it sustained in the Weightless Environment Training Facility (WETF), the predecessor to the Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory at Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. Since 1985, the gloves have been the only part of the EMU custom-sized to individual astronauts. It was not uncommon for NASA to reuse flown space suit assemblies in the WETF; as such, it is possible that prior to its use underwater, this TMG layer launched into space.
