LM Ascent Engine Components

Mission: Apollo   Crew: N/A
Comment: The ascent engine provided 3500 pounds of thrust
burning hydrazine and nitrogen tetroxide.

These components were fabricated by Bell Aerosystems between April 1968 and January 1969 to assemble the valve package assembly (VPA) on the lunar module (LM) ascent engine. This cable, needle bearing and set of nuts and screws would have been built into a VPA, which had the basic function to provide measured quantities of fuel and oxidizer to the engine's thrust chamber. As its name implies, the ascent engine was responsible for launching the LM's upper stage off the Moon's surface to dock with the command module in lunar orbit.
