This swatch of pressure-sensitive Kapton polyimide tape was cut from Columbia's thermal protection subsystem by a North American Apollo recovery team member. Applied over the external ablator surface of the Command Module, the tape was coated with aluminum and oxidized silicon monoxide to shield the spacecraft from the temperatures of outer space.
