This explosive bolt (inert) was flown on Mercury Redstone 2, the suborbital launch of "Ham" the chimp, on January 31, 1961. Launched from Cape Canaveral's Complex 5, the MR-2 spacecraft reached an altitude of 157 miles before splashing down in the ocean.
This bolt was personally retrieved from the capsule post flight by Mercury mechanical engineer Sam Beddingfield, who provides a signed certificate of authenticity with this lot. The bolt was previously on display at the Space Walk of Fame Museum since 2003.
